Sleeping Beauty: Why Sleep is So Important
If we’re friends, then you know how serious I am when it comes to sleep. I treat my bedtime as if it is an important appointment that I can not be late for. Every Queen needs her beauty rest.
Our creativity, ingenuity, confidence, leadership and decision making can all be enhanced simply by getting enough sleep. To all my fellow leaders, you know how important this is.
At night, our cell and tissues repair making you look younger. Your body also rehydrates at night so you wake up with a healthy skin glow. No one wants dark under eye circles.
I believe our bedrooms should be a tranquil getaway from the stresses of your day. My energy healer emphasizes the power of setting subconscious cues throughout a room as reminders of how to feel and think. Everything on the planet needs to be replenished and cleared.
Here are simple steps that will increase your value of sleep and help your well-being.
-Get a new pillow and new pillowcases (& wash them weekly!) -Invest in a better mattress -Make your bedroom dark and cool -Practice deep breathing or meditation before bed -Take a warm bath -Yummy silk pajamas (My favorite is from Victoria Secret) -Exercise or walk every day -Banish all screens at night (I don’t have a TV in my room) -Cut down caffeine after 2pm -Create a zen environment, keeping your bedroom neat and clutter free will help to create a calming environment -Avoid using a loud, annoying alarm clock. (I use the Ripples sound on my iPhone) -Sleep 7-9 hours a night -Avoid alcohol -Air Humidifier (I purchased a good one at Brookstone that connects to your wifi so I can adjust setting from my phone) -Write in a journal
I like to write down a nightly list of all things that I am grateful for that day. Gratitude is the most powerful emotion.
I also like to write down my dreams as soon as I awaken. Keep a dream journal near your bed and jot down what you remember. This significantly enhances your memory. For more on Dreams click here.
Camomile Tea with a side of honey before bed is also a staple in my night time ritual. Make sure you are drinking decaffeinated tea before bed.
